The present invention relates to a headgear (10) for securing and positioning a mask suitable for the treatment of sleep disordered breathing, comprising a back portion (40); a pair of elongated upper straps (20) extending from the back portion on opposing sides of the back portion; a pair of elongated lower straps (30) extending from the back portion on opposing sides of the back portion; wherein each lower strap 1) angles downward to displace a length of each lower strap outboard from the angled portion downward with respect to the back portion; and/or 2) includes a lower edge having a first portion displaced downward relative to a lower edge of the back portion while maintaining substantial parallelism between the upper and the lower straps in use.
