Methods for treating sexual dysfunction are disclosed. The methods generallycomprise the administration of an NO donor and an antioxidant； the activeingredients can be administered topically to the genitals of the patient. Themethods allow for localized NO delivery through topical application of thepresent compounds, while minimizing, if not preventing, damage associated withperoxynitrite formation. Compositions comprising L-arginine, or a derivativethereof and an antioxidant in a pharmaceutical carrier suitable forapplication to the genitals is also disclosed.
