PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved and inexpensive production method of a fishing rod blank, in which an inner wall face can exhibit water repellency and low friction with respect to a fishing line.SOLUTION: A blank is produced by: a cutting step； a thermal transfer material arranging step； a sticking step； a rolling step； a taping step； a calcination step； a core removing step； a tape removing step； and a finishing and cutting step. Before a prepreg is wound to a mandrel, a thermal transfer tape is wound to the mandrel in the thermal transfer material arranging step. The thermal transfer tape comprises a substrate and a water repellent coating 25 carried on the substrate. Because the substrate is removed after calcination, the water repellent coating 25 is coated in a uniform state to an inner wall face 24 of a blank 47.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
