In a machine for the sowing of maize with the simultaneous laying out of foil covering the maize seeds, consisting of a trailer vehicle to be drawn by a tractor via a trailer mounting and having a transverse frame, in which two foil rolls are mounted and a sowing wheel fed from a sowing box is arranged on each of the two sides of each foil-roll mounting, and with a running gear, for the purpose of designing the sowing machine in such a way that track formation cannot occur under the laid-out foils, the trailer mounting is arranged on the transverse frame off-centre relative to the middle of the transverse frame, and the running gear consists of a running wheel arranged between the two foil rolls and of a packer roller which runs in front of each foil roll and the width dimensions of which are expediently of the order of magnitude of the width dimensions of the foil rolls.
