A medical drainage catheter or shunt 1 comprises a main tube 3 having branch tubes 5 extending outward therefrom in different respective directions to define a catheter having an approximate Y-shape. The branch tubes 5 further being able to resiliently move towards each other to permit location of the catheter within the bore of a needle 26 of a shunt delivery apparatus. The delivery apparatus also comprising in addition to the shunt housing needle 26 - a plunger 24 locatable within a barrel 23 and operable to expel the catheter 1 from the needle 26. The resiliency of the branch tubes 5 further ensuring that they return to their original outward state when expelled from the needle 26 of the delivery apparatus. The branch tubes 5 and their outwardly extending form thus serving to anchor the catheter/shunt 1 in place once inserted in the body.
