The absorbent pad 4 has, in a part in its longitudinal direction, a multi-layered portion M having more layers than other portion. The absorbent pad 4 has grooves 7A and 7B in each side portion thereof. With imaginary line X-X drawn straight across the absorbent pad 4 at the rear end Ma of the portion M, the grooves 7A and 7B extend between a point in front of the imaginary line X-X and a point at least 15 mm rearward from the imaginary line X-X. When the absorbent article 1 is viewed from the front to the rear, the number of the groove(s) 7 on each side portion of the absorbent pad 4 does not increase in a region of from the imaginary line X-X to a position 15 mm rearward of the imaginary line X-X.
