A system 100 for fluid perfusion of biological matter comprising tissue, the system comprises: a gas generator for producing a preserving gas； a liquid perfusion system comprising a volume of a liquid perfusate (a preserving liquid)； and a fluid delivery conduit being adapted to be coupled to the gas generator and/or to the liquid perfusion system and being insertable into tissue for delivering one or both of the preserving gas and the liquid perfusate to the tissue. Preferably the preserving gas comprises gaseous oxygen generated by an electrochemical oxygen concentrator 101, and may further comprise water vapour. The liquid perfusate is selected from the group consisting of a liquid cell culture medium, an organ preservation solution, a saline solution and/or a HEPES buffer. The liquid perfusate may also further comprise additives such as antioxidants, anti-apoptotic agents, vasodilators/vasoconstrictors, oxygen carriers, chelators, toxin binders and anticoagulants. The system may further comprise a container (200) to receive the biological matter, a temperature control means and a fluid draining conduit.
