Ophthalmic device configured to be positioned on the surface of the eye at least partially below at least one of the upper and lower eyelids of the eye and outside the cornea of the eye to deliver at least one therapeutic agent to the eye for an extended period of time, the device comprises : the first structure, which is formed from the first material; the second structure, which is formed from the second material, which has the shape of a section and a tubular structure, where the first structure goes through the gap the tubular structure, and wherein at least a portion of a sectional shape adapted to increase the surface area of the second structure in contact with the eye, wherein the second material is different from the first material; and at least one therapeutic agent dispersed in at least one of the first material of the first structure or the second material of the second structure. An ophthalmic device according to claim 1, wherein the sectional shape is selected from the group consisting of a round, lenticular, figure-eight, horseshoe-shaped, oval, oblong, rounded rectangular, star-shaped or gear-shaped. An ophthalmic device according to claim 1, wherein the first structure is thermally fused to a ring shape after penetrating through the lumen of the second structure. An ophthalmic device according to claim 1, wherein two or more tubular structures are formed from the second structure, which is formed from the second material, where each of the two or more tubular structures has a lumen through which the first structure passes.
