An intramedullary orthopedic device comprising an intramedullary rod configured for insertion into a bone is disclosed. The rod includes a first elongated member having a first mating surface and at least a second elongated member having a second mating surface. The first mating surface is such that the elongate members are engaged on the second mating surface such that longitudinal movement is possible but substantially no rotational movement relative to each other is possible . Each mating surface can have elongated ridges and elongated grooves.
