An electrode (10) for use with a cochlear implant system includes an electrode array (14) with at least one electrode contact (16), and an electrode lead (18) adjacent to the electrode array (14). The electrode lead (18) has a flexible region (20) configured to allow the electrode lead to bend and has an attachment mechanism (12) with an internal portion (12a) positioned within the electrode lead and an external portion (12b) configured to be bent and secured to bone. A method of securing the electrode to bone is also disclosed.
