An oral care composition comprising: an oral acceptable filler; a source of metal oxide particles, wherein said metal oxide particles have a median particle size of 1 to 7 microns; one or more amino acids capable of chelating with said metal oxide particles, wherein the metal oxide contains at least one metal oxide selected from zinc oxide, tin (II) oxide, titanium oxide, calcium oxide, copper oxide and iron oxide, or a mixture thereof .2. The oral composition of claim 1, wherein the metal oxide particles have a median particle size of 5 μm or less. An oral care composition according to claim 1, wherein the metal oxide contains zinc oxide. The oral composition according to claim 1, in which the metal oxide particles have a particle size distribution of 3 to 4 μm, a particle size distribution of 5 to 7 μm, a particle size distribution of 3 to 5 μm, a particle distribution of sizes from 2 to 5 microns or particle size distribution from 2 to 4 microns. 5. The oral composition according to claim 1, wherein the metal oxide particles are present in an amount of not more than 5% by weight relative to the total weight of the oral composition. An oral care composition according to claim 5, wherein the metal oxide particles are present in an amount of from 0.5 to 2% by weight with respect to the total weight of the oral composition. An oral care composition according to claim 1, wherein the source of the metal oxide particles is selected from a powder, a solution of nanoparticles, a suspension of nanoparticles, capsules and granules.
