The present invention disclosed is a wound dressing material useful for protection of wounds, and a method of preparing the same. Said dressing comprises a blend of chitosan, polyethylene glycol and polyvinyl pyrolidone, wherein the blend comprises chitosan (CS) in the range of 5-45%, polyethylene glycol (PEG) in the range of 5-45% and polyvinyl pyrolidone (PVP) in the range of 10-90%. This material reduces scar formation to 2.1% of its original scarring of 10.3%. The wound-dressing material can be applied to humans and animals and have biocompatibility, antibacterial effects, low toxicity. Said wound dressing material has flexibility to be formed into various shapes and is suitable for applying to all kinds of wounds.
