In the method, a device for suturing tissue contains a stitching head assembly, a shaft assembly and a handle assembly. Said shaft assembly is connected to the stapling head assembly. Said handle assembly is connected to the shaft assembly. Said handle assembly comprises a motor, a motor housing positioner and a selection assembly. Said motor is located inside the motor housing. Said motor housing positioner is connected to the proximal end of the motor housing. Said motor housing positioner is made with the possibility of translational movement between the proximal position and the distal position, and the motor is made with the possibility of translational movement together with the motor housing positioner. Said selection assembly is configured to select between the motorized operation of the stapling head assembly using an electric drive or manual operation of the stapling head assembly based on the position of the motor housing positioner.
