An intra ocular lens (IOL) comprises a lens (3) with a main lens part (4) having a surface, said main lens part (4) having an optical power of between -20 to about +35 dioptre; an optical centre; an optical axis (R) through said optical centre; a central part (6) which has a relative optical power of about -2.0 to +2.0 dioptre with respect to said main lens part (4), wherein said central part (6) fits within a circumscribing circle with a diameter of about 0.2-2.0 mm; and a recessed part (7, 8) having a surface which is recessed with respect to said surface of said main lens part (4). The recessed part (7, 8) is positioned at a distance of less than 2 mm from said optical centre and comprises a near part having a relative dioptre of about +1.0 to about +5.0 with respect to the optical power of said main lens part (4), said main lens part (4) having at least one boundary with said recessed part, said boundary or boundaries of said recessed lens part with said main lens part forming a blending part or blending parts (10, 11). The blending parts comprise at least one semi-meridian blending part (10) shaped to refract light away from said optical axis when said IOL (1) is illuminated via a collimating lens and placed in an ISO model eye having a 4 mm diameter aperture, wherein said recessed part comprises a diffractive optics part superimposed on the surface of the recessed part.
