An elliptical humeral head prosthesis component having a convex articulating surface defined by a base having an elliptical cross-sectional shape defined by an apex, an outer diameter along the major axis, and an inner diameter along the minor axis. Arrays provide adequate and sufficient anatomical fit within a variation of at most 3 mm in a minimum of 96% of the patient population and a maximum of 99% of the patient population.
