The invention relates to a system for cultivating and harvesting mushrooms, with a plurality of picking racks (5) which are located in a picking zone (6), wherein the mushrooms, which grow on a substrate (3), are arranged on one level on the picking racks (5). The problem addressed by the invention is that of providing a cultivating and harvesting system, with which the picking costs can be reduced. For this purpose, the invention proposes providing at least one transverse conveyor (17) in the picking zone (6), this involving a belt conveyor which spans a plurality of picking racks (5) arranged next to one another and has a conveying direction transversely with respect to the longitudinal extent of the picking racks (5).
