The subject invention provides a novel and advantageous method for preventing and treating viral infection. Specifically exemplified herein are therapeutic uses of forsythoside A and jacaranone, compounds isolated from traditional Chinese medicinal material such as Fructus forsythiae (Lian Qiao).
