The present invention relates to a composition for preventing, alleviating or treating obesity, containing a Phlomis umbrosa Turczaninow extract as an active component. The Phlomis umbrosa Turczaninow extract according to the present invention is confirmed to have effects of having no or little side effects by using natural product, suppressing the increase of body weight and body fat by high fat diet, suppressing the production of fatty liver by high fat diet, reducing fasting blood sugar and total cholesterol, and also browning of adipose tissues by increasing UCP1 of subcutaneous fat tissues.
