The present invention relates to stress inducible promoter. Particularly, it relates to the new genomic gene coding peroxidase isoenzyme derived from <i>Ipomoea batatas</i> and the promoter thereof of which the expressions are strongly induced under environmental stresses in the cultured cells and whole plants. The whole or the part of the peroxidase promoter of the present invention can be effectively used to develop stress-tolerant plants which have resistance to environmental stresses, and to develop transformed organisms which can produce useful materials on a large scale.
