The waist edge(20), continuous in the circumferential direction thereof, and the leg openings(8a, b) are produced by joining, on the manufacturer's end, the longitudinalside edge sections (16, 18) of a front piece (6) and a back piece (4). The hygienearticle also comprises an absorbent body (22). Every leg opening (8a, b) has anelastic leg opening section (81). Band elements (7) are provided on both sidesof the absorbent body (22) and extend in the longitudinal direction (28) thereof,each band element (7) having an elastic band section (9), and a) every band element(7) having at least one non-elastic band section (11) and, when the product isplaced on the body of the user, the elastic leg opening section (81) crossing therespective non-elastic band section (11) or b) the length of the respective bandelement (7) being chosen in such a manner that, when the product is placed on thebody of the user, the elastic leg opening section (81) does not cross the respectiveband element (7).
