A method is disclosed for operating a hybrid medical imaging unit including a first imaging device of relatively high spatial resolution and a second nuclear medicine imaging device of relatively high sensitivity that respectively acquire imaging measurement signals from a common examination volume. In at least one embodiment, the method includes determining the duration of the measurement signal acquisition of one imaging device as a function of the duration of the measurement signal acquisition of the other imaging device and which is defined by the occurrence of a specific truncation criterion.
