The invention relates to a method for preventing metabolic disorders linked to an unbalanced diet at adult age in offspring or to a method for stimulating the intestinal endocrine function and for increasing the sensitivity of the pancreas with respect to glucose at adult age in a mammal, or for preventing glucose homeostasis insufficiency at adult age in a mammal or to a method for reducing sensitivity to inflammations at adult age in a mammal, by administration of ScFOS to the female animal during the gestation of said offspring and/or the breastfeeding of said offspring and/or to said offspring for at least two weeks after weaning.
