An amorphous formulations of a pharmaceutical includes a composition of the formula [A]x[MpClq]y, the composition being an ionic liquid with a melting temperature below 150° C., wherein [MpClq] is a metal chloride, x is 1, 2, 3, or 4, p is 1, 2, 3, or 4, q is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9, and y is 1 or 2, wherein each A is a cation that is a pharmaceutical or a cation precursor that is a pharmaceutical.
