In removing a small-sized pad provided with a pilot thread to be used in surgery (a hygienic material for surgery) from the body by pulling the pilot thread, it is feared that the pilot thread cuts off and thus the small-sized pad per se can be hardly found out. Under these circumstances, it is intended to provide a hygienic material for surgery with little fear of the cutting off of pilot thread. A hygienic material for surgery provided with a pilot thread, wherein the pilot thread (11) is composed of multiple yarns and the difference in elongation rate between the yarn B (core yarn (14)) having the highest elongation rate among these yarns and the yarn A (coating yarn (15)) having the lowest elongation rate is 5 or more. Since this pilot thread cuts off stepwise, it is expected that an operator would carefully conduct the drawing operation following the first cutting off.
