PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope system which improves the insertion property of an insertion section by preventing incongruities in an endoscopic image (an observation image) when inserting the insertion section from the oral cavity to the upper alimentary canal in such a way that a vomiting reflex of a patient is reduced.
SOLUTION: The endoscope system 1 includes the insertion section 11 which is inserted into the body cavity and has an imaging device 14a, a display section 4 for displaying an observation image obtained by the imaging device, a position detecting section 23 for detecting predetermined insertion positions of the insertion section within the body cavity, and a display control section 3 for changing the display direction of the observation image displayed on the display section in accordance with the detection result of the position detecting section.
