The present invention provides a method of preparing a polymer matrix-free nanocomposite comprising a herbal extract for treating cancer. In particular, the method comprises the following steps: (a) dissolving a herbal extract in dimethyl sulfoxide to obtain a solution; (b) mixing dichloromethane with the solution obtained in the step (a) to form an oily phase; adding the oily phase obtained in the step (b) to a polyvinyl alcohol solution to produce an oil-in-water emulsion; (d) evaporating an organic solvent from the oil-in-water emulsion produced in the step (c) to obtain a nanocomposite-dispersed solution; and (e) removing residual polyvinyl alcohol from the nanocomposite-dispersed solution obtained in the step (d).
