The invention relates to an in vitro method for producingspontaneously contracting fish cell aggregates, to the fishcell aggregates obtained thereby, and to the use thereof, inparticular for testing biological active substances andpharmaceuticals.The in vitro method according to the invention for producingcontracting fish cell aggregates comprises the followingsteps:a) mechanical comminution and/or partial enzymaticdigestion of fish embryos or fish larvaeb) transfer of the comminuted and/or partiallydigested fish tissue into an enzyme-free medium and removingthe supernatant by centrifuging to obtain a cell pelletc) resuspension of the cell pellet in a cell culturemediumd) cultivation of the cells, with the medium beingchanged at least once, until spontaneously contracting cellaggregates form.
