The present invention provides a respiratory muscle endurance training device(RMET)comprising a patient interface for transferring a patient's exhaled or inhaledgases, a fixedvolume chamber in communication with the patient interface and a variablevolume chamber incommunication with the fixed volume chamber by way of an interface. Inaddition to beingportable, the RMETs of the present invention allow for the volume of thedevice to be easilyadjusted to accommodate different users. This allows the RMETs of the presentinvention to beused in a home-based setting, thereby providing a relatively accessible non-pharmacologicaltreatment for Dyspnoea, or other aspects of COPD, that also improve exerciseintolerance andquality of life.
