Methods and systems treat abnormal cardiac electricalactivity employing a probe having first and second ablationelectrodes disposed on a distal portion of the probe and asensing electrode disposed between the first and second ablationelectrodes, bringing the probe into contact with cardiactissue, and applying energy through the first and second ablationelectrodes to ablate target tissue along an ablationpath, monitoring cardiac electrical activity using the sensingelectrode to detect the cardiac electrical activity. Aftermaking an observation that the cardiac electrical activityis no longer detectable by the sensing electrode, energyapplication is terminated.
