PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a member for a living body being safe as a biomaterial and having high resistance to low-temperature deterioration and to provide its production method.
SOLUTION: This member 22 for the living body consists of a zirconia sintered body of the biomaterial, is used in a living body, and is characterized in that the inside of the member 22 for the living body mainly consists of tetragonal zirconia, and monoclinic zirconia molar fraction contained in the surfaces 22a, 22b and 22c of the member for the living body is 1 mol% or less. This method of producing the member 22 for the living body consisting of the zirconia sintered body of the biomaterial and being used in the living body is characterized in including a molding process molding powder raw materials containing zirconia and yttria into a molded body, a sintering process providing a sintered body by sintering the molded body, a surface treatment process treating the surface of the sintered body, and a heat treatment process heating the treated sintered body and phase-transiting the monoclinic zirconia into the tetragonal zirconia.
