Described herein are methods for treating cancer in a subject. In particular, methods are provided for treating non-small cell lung cancer and melanoma using a combination consisting of entinostat and an anti-PD-1 or anti-PD-L1 antibody. In one aspect, the anti-PD-1 antibody is pembrolizumab. In one aspect, the cancer is characterized by overexpression of PD-L1.
