Mulching or soil covering is a traditional technique which consists in covering the soil with straw, broken up to a greater or lesser extent, husks, leaves, etc. Untreated tree bark is also used for this purpose. The present invention consists of a compact soil covering consisting of various cellulosic materials (straw, cereal husk, cocoa-bean shells, paper, etc.) and optionally various additives (organic, basifying, acidifying, disinfecting, compression-assisting, oligo-elements or colorants), its method and manufacture and its use on cultivated or uncultivated soils.
