PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an adsorption mat for contaminants that can prevent the decrease in capacity of receiving excavation muck in a structure or facility for contaminant diffusion preventive countermeasure without requiring to lay an extra number of sheets, and a method for treating contaminants contained in dug-up surplus soil. SOLUTION: The adsorption mat for contaminants includes an adsorption material layer 11 containing an adsorbent for adsorbing contaminants; an upper sheet 12A arranged above the adsorption material layer 11; and a lower sheet 12B arranged below the adsorption material layer 11. The upper sheet 12A, the adsorption material layer 11, and the lower sheet 12B are sewn to suppress nonuniformity of thickness over the whole mat and to maintain the specified thickness or more.
