A remote monitoring system and a method of operating a systemhaving a pump is provided. The remotemonitoring system includes avacuum/pressure sensor coupled to measure a vacuum or a pressure in thesystem. Atemperature sensor is positioned to measure an ambient temperature. A fluidlevelsensor is positioned to measure fluid in a collection tank. A controller isoperablycoupled to the vacuum/pressure sensor, the temperature sensor and the fluidlevelsensor, the controller having a communications circuit that is operable totransmit andreceive signals via a cellular SMS text message communications medium, thecontroller having one or more processors that are responsive to nontransitoryexecutable computer instructions, the one or more processors being responsivetochange the operation of the pump in response to an operating signal from thecommunications circuit, the temperature sensor or the vacuum/pressure sensoror thefluid level sensor.
