The present invention relates to the composition constituted of recombinant inhibitor of vertebrate lysozyme (IVY) for inhibition of fertilization. The composition is completely effective in blocking in vitro fertilization at certain concentration of recombinant IVY. The composition constituted of IVY protein can be used for managing or regulating fertility or as a contraceptive molecule in humans as well as animals. The composition can also be used for treating infertility if caused by high level of lysozyme or sperm lysozyme like proteins present in the semen or reproductive tract of females or males.
