PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a guide wire enabling insertion into a catheter from the base end side of the guide wire, and making the shape of a tip deformable by extracting without rotating an operation part at hand.SOLUTION: A guide wire 1 includes: a tubular body 2 a wire 4 inserted into the tubular body 2 a coil part 3 covering the tip side part of the wire and a wire operation part 7. A maximum diameter part of the wire operation part has the diameter equal to or smaller than that of the external diameter of the tubular body. The coil part has a linear shape, and the tip of the guide wire covered with the coil part is deformable from a linear shape to a curved shape by the extraction of the wire to the base end direction.
