PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preparing catechins, whereby highly pure catechins can be obtained with high recovery rate by removing gallic acid from a tea extract etc.
SOLUTION: The method for preparing catechins includes a step of purifying catechins by chromatography by feeding a material liquid containing catechins and an eluting solution containing an organic solvent and water to a packed bed 12 in which a cation exchange resin is packed. The eluting solution is preferably an aqueous ethanol solution. A base may be optionally added to the material liquid and/or the eluent. The chromatography is preferably conducted adopting a pseudo-moving bed method. The material liquid is preferably a tea extract or a treated product of the tea extract.
