The invention relates to medicine, and more particularly to antifriction inserts made of modified polytetrafluoroethylene for artificial endoprostheses of joints, and can be used in friction assemblies of endoprostheses of hip, knee, shoulder and elbow joints and also intervertebral discs. The insert is a component with a curvilinear surface and is formed from modified polytetrafluoroethylene. The starting blanks are processed with high-energy ionizing radiation (alpha radiation, electron radiation, irradiation with protons, neutrons and other ionizing particles, gamma bremsstrahlung and gamma radiation). The processing is carried out at a temperature strictly higher than the melting point of the crystal phase of a polymer in an oxygen-free atmosphere. The processing is carried out, in particular, with the aid of an electron accelerator generating gamma bremsstrahlung up to an absorbed dose of 0.5-500 kGy or equivalent in terms of energy for high-energy coherent radiation. In the irradiation process, the polymer temperature is reduced by no more than 0.5 °С/10 kGy. After the processing with ionizing radiation, the polymer is subjected to thermal processing.
