The use of lupulones (I) is claimed for the production of compositions for inhibiting the formation of abnormal crypt sites, formation of polyps and cancerization of polyps in the mucosa of the colon of a mammal (specifically a human). Independent claims are included for functional foods and food supplements containing (I). ACTIVITY : Cytostatic. In tests in rats injected intraperitoneally with azoxymethane as colorectal carcinogenesis inducer, administration of lupolones at a dose of 5 mg/kg per day (in the form of a lupulone-containing extract of whirlpool turbidity formed in beer production, contained in a drink) for 6 weeks reduced the number of precancerous lesions in the mucosa of the colon by ca. 50%.
