Disclosed is a plant supporting formulation which is adapted to deliver one or more phytologically beneficial substances to a plant and to enhance the systemic translocation of said substance(s) in the plant, said formulation being in the form of a micro-emulsion comprising: an aqueous carrier; a dissolved gas; and a fatty acid based component comprising a mixture of long chain fatty acid based substances selected from (i) one or more esterified fatty acids including oleic acid, linoleic acid, alpha-linolenic acid, gamma-linolenic acid, arachidonic acid, and (ii) one or more of ricinoleic acid, and derivatives thereof selected from the group consisting of the C1 to C6 alkyl esters thereof, the glycerol-polyethylene glycol esters thereof, and the reaction product of hydrogenated and unhydrogenated natural oils composed largely of ricinoleic acid based oils with ethylene oxide; and an effective concentration of dl-alpha-tocopherol or the plant physiologically active isomer thereof. Also disclosed is a method for producing a plant supporting formulation. Further disclosed is a method of treating a plant by administering the plant the formulation.
