PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the time and labor of replacing a high frequency coil for reception and to gather magnetic resonance signals by sensitivity optimum for each region even in the case of imaging the different regions (typically, vertebra and abdominal area) of a subject.
SOLUTION: The high frequency coil (high frequency coil assembly) for the reception used in a magnetic resonance imaging apparatus is provided with at least one coil assembly composed of: a plurality of first high frequency coils (loop coils 20-22) which are arrayed along a fixed direction so as to receive the magnetic resonance signals and a second high frequency coil (cross coil 23) which is structurally decoupled from each of the plurality of first high frequency coils, is arranged along the fixed direction so as to cover an area W2 practically equivalent to an imaging area taken on by the plurality of first high frequency coils and receives the magnetic resonance signals. As one example, the coil assembly can be used independently or the plurality of coil assemblies can be arrayed and used.
