PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of repairing and/or stabilizing a joint of an animal.SOLUTION: The invention provides the use of allogeneic mesenchymal stem cells for preparation of pharmaceutical compositions to prevent or reduce joint injury in an animal. The pharmaceutical compositions contain effective amounts of the mesenchymal stem cells for proliferation of meniscal tissue in the joint, and are formulated for injection to the joint space in the absence of a scaffold. The mesenchymal stem cells differentiate into and/or stimulate production of meniscal tissue.
