An ultrasound transducer (68) is coupled with the distal portion of the elongate flexible shaft (10), wherein the ultrasound transducer (68) emits a beam of ultrasound energy for ablating target tissue, and the beam forms a continuous lesion in the target tissue without contact between the ultrasound transducer (68) and the target tissue. A handle (24) is coupled with the proximal portion (14) of the elongate flexible shaft (10). An actuation mechanism is coupled with the handle (24) for steering the distal portion (12). The continuous lesion is formed while the distal portion (12) of the elongate flexible shaft (10) is moving.
