A central venous catheter delivery apparatus 1 is constructed from a cannula assembly 23 and a catheter adapter 31. The cannula assembly has a catheter 16 with, at its proximal end, a wider hub portion 24. A central lumen 17 in the catheter receives a hollow needle 14. Within the needle is a stylet 12 with a blunt end, able to slide up and down inside the needle. Preferably the stylet is hollow with a channel along its length； it may be connected to a pressure transducer； and it may be spring biased (figure 6) into a retracted position inside the needle but slidable into an extended position (figure 6A) to blunt the needle. The adapter 31 has at least one channel which aligns with the central lumen of the catheter； preferably it has several additional channels to communicate with aligning lumens in the catheter hub. These receive feed tubes 34,40 having end ports 36. Wings 100, 101 are for fastening the apparatus to a patient. The apparatus is for use in ultrasoundguided introductions.
