One aspect of the present invention relates to a method of using peristalsisto force a polymer plug through a mammalian lumen, thereby removing anycalculi and/or calculi fragments present in the lumen. In one embodiment, themethod is used as an alternative to conventional lithotripsy. In anotherembodiment, the method is used in conjunction with lithotripsy, therebyremoving the small calculi fragments that result from such procedures.
