The present invention provides a titanium oxide having an excellent unevenness-masking effect. This titanium oxide consists of titanium oxide particles which are each composed of rod-shaped titanium oxide primary particles that are gathered into a three-dimensionally radial form and which have particle diameters of 0.5 to 50mum. Further, the titanium oxide is characterized in that: the inner ends of the primary particles agglomerate to form a core which is the central part of the titanium oxide particle, while the outer ends thereof form protrusions extending from the core and the lengths of the protrusions are 0.05 to 0.5mum. The diameters of the protrusions are 0.01 to 0.2mum, and the lengths of the protrusions may be equivalent to or longer than the diameters thereof. The titanium oxide may be further coated with an oxide of iron such as iron oxyhydroxide or iron oxide, silica, or a combination of two or more of them.【課題】凹凸補正効果に優れる酸化チタンを提供する。【解決手段】 棒状酸化チタン一次粒子が三次元放射状に集合した粒径0.5~50μmの酸化チタン粒子であって、前記棒状酸化チタン一次粒子の一端は互いに凝集して酸化チタン粒子の中心部であるコアを形成し、他端はコアから延びた突起を形成し、前記突起長が0.05~0.5μmであることを特徴とする酸化チタン。突起径が0.01~0.2μmで突起長が突起径の等倍以上であることができる。本発明の酸化チタンは、さらにオキシ水酸化鉄や酸化鉄などの鉄酸化物、あるいはシリカ、あるいはそれらの組み合わせで被覆されていてもよい。【選択図】 図2
