PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To evaluate the hardness and softness of the lower layer 52 (muscle or the like) present under a relatively soft surface layer.SOLUTION: A contact penetrator is pressed to the surface of a measuring target 50 and the indentation load W applied to the contact penetrator and the indentation depth (x) of the contact penetrator are used to evaluate the hardness and softness of the measuring target 50.
