A method for treating laminitis (and/or for preventing or treating lameness) in hooved animals, comprising: preparing a medicament comprising a topical anti-inflammatory solution； and applying the medicament to hooves of the animals via an automated animal treatment system. In certain embodiments, the topical anti-inflammatory solution comprises magnesium sulfate, preferably 1.5% to 7.5% magnesium sulfate.
