A fastening system (1) for a wearing article including a pair of hook carrying side edge portions (17) with a hook component (7) and a pair of loop carrying side edge portions (18) with a loop component (8) adapted to be detachably engaged with each other. Each of the hook carrying side edge portions (17) comprises a first sheet section (11) extending outward from each of the transversely opposite first side edge portions (21) of the wearing article, a second sheet section (12) being contiguous to an outer side edge (13) of the first sheet section (11) so as to extend toward the transversely opposite first side edge portions (21), a joining area (14) extending in parallel to and spaced from the outer side edge so as to join the first and second sheet section to each other, and a non-joining area (15) surrounded by the joining area (14), the first and second sheet sections and the outer side edge (13), and the hook component (7) has first and second side edges (16, 19) extending in parallel to the outer side edge (13) and is secured to the hook carrying side edge portion in such a manner that the first side edge (16) lies in the joining area (14) while the second side edge (19) lies in the non-joining area (15).
