The present disclosure relates to a herbal formulation capable of inhibiting proliferation of Plasmodium and providing symptomatic relief from malaria and symptoms associated with malaria e.g. fever, chills, headache, sweats, fatigue, nausea, etc. The disclosed herbal formulation can inhibit proliferation of drug resistant strains of protozoan parasite Plasmodium while minimizing the associated side effects, and can be effectively used for the treatment and/or prophylaxis of malaria. In an aspect, the herbal formulation disclosed herein can include an a combination of an extract of at least one part of Cucurbita pepo, an extract of at least one part of Boerhavia diffusa and an extract of at least one part of Piper nigrum.
